Why Is Sandalwood Good For Your Skin?

Sandalwood is a natural antiseptic and preservative that is used in the production of soaps, beauty creams and other toiletries. Sandalwood, popularly known as Chandan in India, has also often been mentioned in the Ayurveda as a natural healer. Ask your grandmother and she will suggest Chandan as one of the best solutions for any skin problem.

For a very long time, sandalwood has had a place of dignity and respect reserved for it in many of the religions and societies across the world, especially in Hinduism. In Hinduism, it is considered holy and indispensable to most social and religious rituals. It is also applied on the forehead as a sacred mark by the members of some communities in India.

The oil and paste of Sandalwood are used in medicines or for skin and beauty treatments, as well as in many other industrial productions, including in mouth fresheners, edibles, incense sticks, room fresheners, deodorants, perfumes, soaps, etc.

Sandalwood oil can help you get a bright, clean and flawless skin. It also helps cure skin infections and prevents itching and untimely skin ageing. It can be used to get rid of inflammation, prevent spasms, boost renal health, to keep your blood pressure under control, to help in getting rid of body odor, drive stress and anxiety away, fight viral infections and to do many more such amazing things.

Inhaling the aroma of sandalwood oil transmits certain signals to a part of the brain involving the control of emotions. Known as the limbic system, this part of the brain also influences the nervous system to an extent. This can help in controlling the heart rate, stress levels, blood pressure, breathing, and immune function.

Sandalwood oil is also a very good antiseptic agent, safe for both internal and external applications. If you consume the oil, it can help in healing internal wounds, ulcers and infections. In the same way, it can also be externally applied to wounds, sores, boils, and pimples to prevent them from becoming infectious.

Sandalwood oil can also help in the treatment of a cough. It behaves like an expectorant and fights any viral infections that may be caused due to a cough, common cold, flu or other illnesses. It also helps in boosting memory and increases your concentration power.

This oil is especially beneficial for growing children. It helps in soothing the digestive, circulatory and nervous systems while also enabling these systems to better function in harmony and without any abnormalities. It is also effective in tackling the problem of body odour.

A Word of Caution: There are no known risks that are associated with the use of sandalwood oil except that it is not to be applied raw onto the skin. Make sure that you mix sandalwood oil with some carrier oil of your choice.

Also, test your skin sensitivity before you use the oil. Try it on the feet first if possible. Excessive use of the oil can also lead to skin sensitization. Avoid direct contact with your eyes, ears and nose.
