Steaming is one the best things to indulge in to pamper your skin and hair. Regular steam sessions hydrate and condition your hair from the roots leaving it shiny and soft. The heat also improves blood circulation and promotes hair growth. Therefore no matter what your hair type or length is, regular hair steaming is a must. But, before you book an appointment or put that steamer on here are some do’s and don’ts you must know.
Do’s

Steam often
Your hair requires a weekly dose of steaming to stay healthy and hydrated. Regular steaming improves the texture of the hair and retains moisture.

Keep each session 20-30 minutes long
Timing is everything! Most people do a quick 5-10 minutes steaming session and complain that it’s not helping. Steaming requires a minimum of 20-30 minutes to treat each strand of hair and reach the roots.

Use a washcloth or head band
Wear a head band or wear a washcloth under your hair to prevent the conditioner/hair mask from coming in contact with your skin.
Don’ts

Cover your hair
Wearing a plastic cap is the worst thing you can do during a steaming session. Allow the heat to do its magic and seep into the roots to work effectively.

Tie your hair
Tying your hair will prevent steam from reaching every strand of hair. Instead keep it open and let the heat do its work.

Overdo it
Steaming can be so good that it can get addictive. However, anything more than once a week will do more harm than good. Over moisturising can make hair limp and prone to breakage.
